Specialized Controls Engineering for a Mission-Critical Aerospace Environment

Specialized Controls Engineering for a Mission-Critical Aerospace Environment
The Challenge

A defense consulting firm supporting operations at a major U.S. Air Force installation needed a highly specialized engineer capable of bridging industrial controls, operational technology, networking, and cybersecurity.

The role required hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networking protocols, and OT security standards, while also operating within the compliance and clearance requirements of a defense environment.

The combination of technical breadth, security requirements, and location narrowed the talent pool significantly.

Our Approach

Once engaged, Sigil immediately reached into their cleared network, focusing the search around candidates with practical experience integrating and supporting control systems, embedded equipment, and secure OT infrastructure.

The team placed an emphasis on engineers who could operate across both the physical and digital layers of the environment: working with equipment manufacturers, troubleshooting control systems, supporting network architecture, and collaborating with IT and cybersecurity teams.

The Outcome

Sigil successfully delivered a qualified IIoT & OT Controls Engineer with the combination of experience required for the engagement. The placement provided the client with critical engineering capabilities to support their ongoing USAF client, and demonstrated Sigil’s ability to recruit highly specialized technical talent operating across embedded systems, cybersecurity, and aerospace infrastructure.
