Sr. MBSE Systems Engineer

Job Description

Sigil Partners is seeking an experienced Sr. Model-Based Systems Engineering Systems Engineer to lead architecture, requirements, modeling, integration, and technical analysis activities for aerospace and defense programs. This individual will collaborate with clients, program leadership, engineering teams, acquisition stakeholders, and mission-domain experts to develop authoritative system models and support complex technical decisions.

The ideal candidate will bring strong systems-engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience with model-based systems engineering, and the ability to guide programs through concept development, architecture, requirements analysis, design, integration, verification, and validation. This is a remote position within the United States that may require periodic travel or on-site work at government facilities, engineering laboratories, integrator locations, or secure customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead model-based systems engineering activities for complex aerospace, defense, and mission systems
  • Develop and maintain system architectures, behavioral models, functional models, interfaces, requirements, and verification relationships
  • Translate mission needs, operational concepts, and stakeholder requirements into structured system models
  • Create and manage SysML diagrams, model libraries, viewpoints, profiles, and modeling conventions
  • Establish traceability among mission objectives, capabilities, requirements, architecture, interfaces, risks, and verification activities
  • Facilitate architecture workshops, technical reviews, requirements sessions, and model reviews with client and engineering teams
  • Support trade studies, alternatives analysis, gap assessments, risk evaluations, and technical decision-making
  • Develop operational, functional, logical, physical, and interface architectures
  • Integrate MBSE models with requirements-management, configuration-management, simulation, analysis, and digital-engineering tools
  • Support system integration, verification, validation, test planning, and technical-performance measurement
  • Ensure models remain consistent, configuration-controlled, and aligned with program baselines
  • Develop MBSE governance, modeling standards, workflows, templates, and reusable assets
  • Communicate complex technical concepts through clear models, presentations, reports, and client-facing documentation
  • Mentor systems engineers and promote MBSE and digital-engineering best practices across programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 7+ years of professional systems-engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience applying MBSE to complex systems or systems-of-systems
  • Strong knowledge of SysML and systems-engineering lifecycle processes
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, Enterprise Architect, Rhapsody, Capella, or similar platforms
  • Experience developing system architectures, requirements, interfaces, functional decompositions, and verification strategies
  • Familiarity with requirements-management tools such as IBM DOORS, Jama Connect, Polarion, or similar systems
  • Experience supporting technical reviews such as SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, TRR, or equivalent reviews
  • Ability to facilitate technical discussions and communicate effectively with engineering, program, acquisition, and customer stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, consulting, technical-writing, presentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and provide technical leadership within distributed teams
  • Ability to satisfy applicable export-control and security requirements
  • Ability to travel periodically to government, customer, integrator, or test locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, military-service, intelligence-community, or federal aerospace programs
  • Knowledge of DoD acquisition processes, systems-engineering technical reviews, and digital-engineering strategies
  • Familiarity with DoDAF, UAF, UPDM, MODAF, MOSA, or other architecture frameworks
  • Experience with mission engineering, systems-of-systems analysis, capability development, or operational analysis
  • Familiarity with SysML v2 and model transformation or automation technologies
  • Experience integrating MBSE environments with simulation, digital twins, PLM, ALM, or configuration-management platforms
  • Knowledge of specialty engineering disciplines such as reliability, maintainability, safety, cybersecurity, human factors, or supportability
  • INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP certification
  • OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional certification
  • Prior defense consulting or client-facing technical-leadership experience
  • Active or previously held U.S. security clearance
