RF Engineer
Job Description
Sigil Partners is seeking an experienced RF Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test radio-frequency and microwave systems for aerospace and defense applications. This individual will collaborate with systems, electrical, mechanical, embedded-software, test, manufacturing, and mission-engineering teams to deliver reliable and high-performance solutions for secure and mission-critical platforms.
The ideal candidate will bring strong RF and microwave engineering fundamentals, hands-on laboratory experience, and the ability to support products throughout the engineering lifecycle—from requirements and architecture through detailed design, integration, qualification, manufacturing, and field support. This is a remote position within the United States that may require periodic travel or on-site work at engineering laboratories, manufacturing facilities, test ranges, or secure customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, develop, and test RF and microwave circuits, components, subsystems, and integrated systems
- Perform link-budget, noise-figure, gain, linearity, interference, propagation, and system-performance analyses
- Design or select amplifiers, filters, mixers, oscillators, frequency synthesizers, antennas, transceivers, and related RF components
- Develop RF architectures, block diagrams, interface requirements, technical specifications, and design documentation
- Perform electromagnetic simulations, circuit modeling, tolerance analyses, and design optimization
- Support printed circuit board layout, grounding, shielding, signal integrity, power integrity, and thermal-management decisions
- Conduct laboratory testing using vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, and related equipment
- Integrate RF hardware with digital electronics, embedded software, antennas, enclosures, and mission-system platforms
- Troubleshoot RF performance, interference, electromagnetic compatibility, manufacturing, and system-integration issues
- Plan and execute design verification, environmental qualification, acceptance testing, and production testing
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to support component selection, producibility, yield, and obsolescence management
- Participate in requirements reviews, design reviews, test-readiness reviews, and root-cause analyses
- Maintain engineering drawings, analyses, test reports, procedures, configuration records, and verification evidence
- Ensure designs comply with applicable performance, safety, quality, security, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical discipline
- 3+ years of professional RF, microwave, antenna, or wireless-systems engineering experience
- Strong understanding of RF fundamentals, including impedance matching, S-parameters, transmission lines, noise, gain, linearity, and modulation
- Experience designing or testing RF systems, circuits, components, or antennas
- Hands-on experience with RF laboratory equipment and measurement techniques
- Experience with RF design and simulation tools such as Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS, CST Studio Suite, Cadence AWR, or similar platforms
- Ability to develop and interpret schematics, block diagrams, interface documents, technical specifications, and test procedures
- Experience with hardware troubleshooting, data analysis, and root-cause investigation
- Strong analytical, technical-writing, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams
- Ability to satisfy applicable export-control and security requirements
- Ability to travel periodically to laboratories, manufacturing facilities, test ranges, or customer sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, Electromagnetics, or a related discipline
- Experience with radar, electronic warfare, signals intelligence, satellite communications, tactical communications, navigation, telemetry, or data-link systems
- Experience with phased arrays, active electronically scanned arrays, beamforming, direction finding, or antenna design
- Familiarity with software-defined radio, digital signal processing, or FPGA-based RF systems
- Experience with electromagnetic interference and compatibility testing
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, DO-160, or related military and aerospace standards
- Experience transitioning RF designs from prototype development into low- or high-rate production
- Familiarity with environmental testing, qualification, reliability, and failure analysis
- Experience with automated RF test systems using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools
- Active or previously held U.S. security clearance
